Natalie has worked at Murphy for over 2 years now and completed her procurement qualification as part of the Murphy graduate programme in August 2021. Her full time role is a Buyer in the Central Procurement Team.
With no prior experience in the construction industry, the graduate scheme at Murphy gave Natalie a variety of involvements across the different business units. Initially beginning in Murphy Plant, the training was on the use of Murphy systems, integrating into the company and following processes which paves the way for a successful career within Murphy. Natalie also was part of the M4 Material and Subcontract teams, again learning something completely new and allowing for involvement with multiple stakeholders within the business and high value projects. Finally, the placement in the Central Procurement Team led to Natalie’s choice of full time role. Natalie enjoys how there is a variety of requirements in Central, which can change day to day, whilst also being part of major framework agreements which are group wide.
Lucy joined Murphy as a graduate in September 2020 and is currently working on the Hochtief Murphy Joint Venture, London Power Tunnels 2, helping to delivery material and subcontract packages for National Grid.
Before rotating onto LPT2 in January 2021, Lucy’s first rotation in the Graduate Programme consisted of aiding the procurement teams in both M3 Water and M5 Building & Property sectors. Working with procurement in Murphy’s water and buildings sectors has helped her gain detailed knowledge of the different construction sectors and materials required, which has aided her development. Alongside this, Lucy has also been studying for her level 4 CIPS accreditation which will further improve her procurement knowledge.
Luke has now been at Murphy just over a year after joining in September 2020. He is currently delivering material and subcontract packages as part of the Trans-Pennine Route upgrade improving rail connectivity in the north and the Rail Electrification Alliance which aims to fully electrify the East Coast Mainline between Edinburgh and London.
The graduate programme has allowed Luke to rotate around different parts of Murphy's overall procurement function and has given him the platform to develop by being part of several teams. This has involved material buying for the M2 transportation team, focusing mainly on earthworks, being entrusted with Murphy Utilities, and gaining an in-depth knowledge of the strategic side of the business in the Central Procurement Team.
Ben joined Murphy on a placement (internship) year back in 2019 before re-joining the business in the summer of 2021 on the graduate programme, after his final year of University. During his time he has been involved within M2 Transportation, mainly assisting with the purchasing of materials for all sites.
He is on his first graduate rotation which will end early 2022; where he will then transition into the TRU/REAL Alliance, a challenge he is looking forward to. Murphy’s training programme has allowed Ben to gain more responsibility on a day to day basis, become more confident and obtain a more rounded understanding of the construction industry.
Alice joined Murphy’s in September 2021 as a Graduate Buyer where she is part of M2 Transportation, based on the CP6 Anglia Framework. Alice covers multiple projects within the CP6 framework assisting on Procurement activities, focusing on Subcontract works. She is thoroughly enjoying her first Graduate rotation in the M2 business Unit and looking forward to learning more from the other Business Units over the next 2 years of the Graduate Programme.
