John was appointed Chief Executive Officer in January 2018. He joined the business in 2003 as a civil engineer and developed a broad range of experience working across the company’s key sectors and capabilities.
John has worked on notable projects such the London power tunnels for the Olympic Park project in 2012, as well as the South Wales expansion pipeline for National Grid. Following his time on projects, he successfully led the Murphy business across the North of England as managing director, and was appointed Chief Operating Officer in 2017. He is a fellow of the Institute of Civil Engineers, and recently completed the Harvard Business School Advanced Management Programme. John is the grandson of our founder John Murphy and also represents the company on a number of joint venture boards both in the UK and abroad.
Dawn has over 26 years’ experience working in Human Resources (HR) and is a Chartered Fellow of the CIPD. She brings significant leadership skills and senior HR experience to the Murphy family, oversees our marketing and communications activities and plays a central role as part of our Group Executive Committee (GEC).
Dawn was voted HR Director of the Year 2019 (EMEA) by HRO Today and was named as one of the most influential eight women in Construction in 2018. Dawn has received multiple national awards for work on diversity and inclusion, culture change, recognition and HR strategy over the last few years and is regularly asked to speak at national events and contribute to published articles on her HR work. Additionally, she has experience as a Non-Executive Director and is passionate about creating an inclusive working environment where everyone, regardless of background, can be successful.
J P Murphy joined the business from private practice in June 1992 as the company’s sole in-house legal adviser. He is responsible for the legal, security and governance matters in the business and sits on the Group Executive Committee.
His career has evolved with the growth of the business over the last 27 years encompassing the major transactions that have underpinned its growth. This includes property acquisitions and business acquisitions in the UK and incorporated and unincorporated joint ventures in the UK, Australia and Canada. In his role as Company Secretary to the Board, he has assisted the Non-Executive Chairman in the establishing the corporate governance which now underpins the decision-making process in the business He also acts as secretary to the Audit, Risk and Opportunity and Remuneration Board Committees to support the non-executive directors’ oversight of the business.
With over 30 years of experience in civil engineering and building, Nick has worked on and been responsible for projects across the United Kingdom, Ireland and Internationally. He has worked in a variety of infrastructure sectors and capabilities, including pipelines, water and gas pipeline, tunnelling, piling, airports, rail, water, nuclear, utilities, energy, marine and many building sectors including custodial, residential, commercial, hospitality, health and education.
Nick is a chartered civil engineer and a Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) and as part of his commitment to professional development of Murphy Graduates, Nick also actively enjoys being a Supervising Civil Engineer (SCE) for a number of Graduates and a registered Professional Reviewer with the ICE for Graduates applying for Chartered status.
John is Managing Director of our business in Ireland, Murphy International, and oversees all Murphy activities including civils, building, gas, water, piling, structural steel and process engineering.
A qualified engineer, John has over 30 years’ construction experience working across the public and private sector. He has significant expertise in successfully delivering a broad range of projects, such as water and wastewater plants, flood alleviation, building projects, gas pipeline projects and much more.
Mick joined the business as an engineering graduate in 1996. He has operated at various levels within the key sectors of natural resources, water and wastewater, with a focus on the design and construction of large diameter pipelines and associated facilities.
Mick had an integral part of growing the business in both the UK and Australia, when he was the Director of Pipelines and Process. Since 2015, he has been expanding Murphy in Canada as President of Surerus Murphy; a 50% Murphy joint venture focused on the delivery of major pipeline infrastructure within Western Canada.
John has worked in various executive roles in the construction industry over the past ten years, and possesses strong credentials in strategy, business development, sustainability and governance.
At Murphy, John leads the SHES and Sustainability functions across the business. He works with the CEO and other Executives to set and drive the medium to long-term strategies of the business. With respect to SHES, this involves taking the lead for Safety, Health, Environmental, Sustainability and Quality Assurance, managing the SHES team, embedding SHES leadership in Murphy, setting SHES standards and expectations, and continuously monitoring performance. An experienced leader, John has a proven track record of driving change and delivering results in the infrastructure and energy markets. He is also a chartered civil engineer and health and safety professional.
Joe joined Murphy in 2020. He is a member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants and has over 20 years experience in the Construction and Infrastructure sector in senior finance roles. He has extensive experience in business strategy, financial controls and risk management, but his main passion is building effective and motivated teams that focus on longer term sustainable objectives. Before joining Murphy he was Finance Director at Morgan Sindall Construction & Infrastructure for 8 years and prior to that he held a number of senior finance roles in Carillion at a divisional level before leaving there in 2012.
With 19 years of experience in the Construction industry and more specifically the Equipment Rental sector, Mike now leads on all Murphy investment activities including responsibility for Murphy Plant, Murphy Utility Assets (MUA), Murphy Property, Murphy Facilities Management and Murphy Infrastructure Investments throughout our geographies. Mike is also responsible for our Group IT function and Digital Transformation within the Group.
Mike graduated university with a technology degree and is also qualified as a Project Manager. More recently he has gone on to graduate from Harvard Business School in Boston (US) in 2022.
Mike is committed to developing Murphy as an investor in both our core activities and our adjacent markets through expert leadership and accountability. He has a proven track record of delivering strong results and embedding sustainable change.
Andrew joined Murphy in 2024 and has more than 25 years' of international experience, having worked in the UK, Australia and New Zealand, delivering construction and infrastructure projects for both private and public sector clients.
Before joining Murphy, Andrew was at Fletcher Construction in New Zealand, where he worked as Executive General Manager of Commercial for two years. In addition to his commercial role, Andrew also looked after the South Pacific operations. Prior to this, Andrew was Commercial Director at Skanska for four years.
Adrian is a chartered Civil Engineer with over 30 years’ experience delivering complex projects. As Group Technical Director, he leads the company’s better engineered focus alongside managing director responsibility for Murphy’s Infrastructure business unit.
