Murphy has a proud history of designing and constructing tunnels and underground structures for numerous clients throughout the UK and Ireland. We are proud to have worked with clients such as National Grid, UK Power Networks, Thames Water, United Utilities, Wessex Water, Crossrail and Network Rail.
We operate a ‘One Murphy’ direct delivery model, which sees us working closely with Murphy Plant, who continually invest in tunnelling equipment to support the business; Murphy Ground Engineering, who provide piling support; and Murphy Applied Engineering, who provide both temporary and permanent work design and geotechnical advice.
We have the in-house capability to design and deliver all tunnelling techniques, including sprayed concrete lining and mechanised Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) tunnelling.
We have experience in designing and delivering shafts and caverns using a wide range of techniques that can cater to different ground conditions and depths. This allows us to evaluate the most effective solution for each unique requirement.
We have highly qualified and trained project managers, tunnelling managers, civil, mechanical, electrical and surveying engineers, and a dedicated long-serving workforce.
Direct delivery model
Our extensive in-house capability enables us to maintain the highest levels of quality. We rely on our own expertise and fleet of tunnelling equipment to develop and deliver solutions for our clients. This is something few other tunnelling providers can offer.
Project scale and diversity
Our ability to design and deliver projects ensures solutions are customised to clients’ requirements. Through our ‘One Murphy’ approach, we have the flexibility and experience to deliver a full range of low to high value projects.
We own and operate the latest fleet of tunnelling equipment including TBMs, which allows us to mobilise quickly and restrict delays on our projects.
