This design, build and operate (DBO) project saw Wexford County Council engage Murphy to deliver a new wastewater treatment plant along with collection and pumping infrastructure to serve the town of New Ross. This project included:
Construction of a new 16,000 PE located at Marshmeadows to the south New Ross.
Network upgrades and new foul and stormwater pumping stations located along the quays in the town of New Ross.
Key Challenges
The wastewater treatment plant is constructed entirely overground on a raised stone mattress to ensure it is protected from flooding from the River Barrow.
Project Delivery & Innovations
The wastewater treatment process at New Ross comprises:
Preliminary treatment (screening and grit removal).
Stormwater holding tank.
CASSTM SBR basins.
Sludge thickening.
Sludge dewatering.
Liquid sludge import facility.
Odour abatement system.
Treated effluent outfall to the River Barrow.
Key Facts
This project ended the practice of untreated raw untreated sewage being discharged into the River Barrow at New Ross.
Murphy have been operating this plant since live commissioning commenced in 2010.
