United Utilities Enterprise Murphy has formed an enterprise with United Utilities, C2V (Volker Stevin/Jacobs), Costain, Kier, MMB and MWH to carry out the Project Management, Design, Construction and Commissioning of Complex Capital Projects to meet United Utilities AMP 8 and 9 regulatory commitments. The enterprise will also support the improvement of environmental outcomes and low carbon solutions to meet affordability thresholds, embrace integrated catchment solutions, embed Minimal Viable Product, enhance the use of standard products and solutions, offsite construction, and modular build. Design and Build Framework Lot 2 Under this framework, Murphy is responsible for detailed design, procurement of works materials, whilst being supported by United Utilities’ logistics supplier(s) and collective purchasing capability. On Lot 2, Murphy is covering: Water Networks, and Water Network Pipelines, Wastewater Networks Pipelines, Pumping Stations & Storage, and Reservoirs. Pump Installations Concrete in-situ tank installations Pre-fabricated tanks CSO chamber installations & pump return Sewer upsizing and installations Screen installations MEICA Installation and commissioning Access Roads and Site Facilities Other construction works A large part of the programme is linked to United Utilities’ Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) spill reduction, known as Better Rivers. The Frameworks aim to deliver this programme efficiently, working with United Utilities’ SSIP, engineering teams, and supply chain to maximise standardisation and modular solutions.
Project Outline The £120m+ Oswestry Water Treatment Improvement Project, which started in May 2022, entered its second year of construction. It is being delivered by Murphy as part of the Advance Plus joint venture for United Utilities. Now in mid-cycle, the project will upgrade water quality for the people of Liverpool. Throughout 2023 around 170 people worked within the confines of the existing works, and over 900 wagon loads of concrete were placed to bases and walls of over 7.5m height. Our Self-Delivery Concrete teams have handed over the water-tight structures to the next project phase, where our MEICA team and supply chain partners will pick up in late 2024. We are also proud to have supported the amazing work of the local Hope Hospice and, most recently, the Oswestry Heritage Railway Community Group. These Giving Back Days come from our One Team approach and it is rewarding to see the project’s contribution to the local area.
