Triton Knoll team breaks records

Murphy excavated 1,030m in one day and completed over 500,000 man hours LTI free.

The team on the Triton Knoll Offshore Windfarm project had a successful end to 2019 with the completion of the duct installation in one season for our client, Innogy.

The duct installation process involved excavating 79km of trench, installing Cement Bound Sand (CBS) bedding, ducting, CBS surround and backfilling over a seven month period. Moreover, the team have exceeded client expectations by excavating 1,030m in one day by a single team, which was then followed by 1,012m the next day.

This success can be attributed to our ‘One Murphy’ approach, which allows us to deliver a range of services in-house, capitalising on efficiencies for the client. Two Murphy power teams used an innovative array of techniques alongside Murphy Plant, who helped to achieve record breaking production levels, further de-risking the duct installation process before moving into the winter months.

Project Manager, Scott Marsden said it’s a great honour to be involved in delivering one of the UK’s most significant infrastructure projects.

“We’re installing the longest cable route in the country and it’s a great opportunity for us to further enhance our reputation and show our capability in the delivery of cross-country projects. There is a large future order book for these types of schemes and our ongoing professional delivery will put us in a good position for future work.”

Furthermore, the project team have completed over 500,000 man hours Lost Time Incident (LTI) free, which is testament to their professionalism and delivery standards.

Triton Knoll is an offshore windfarm located off the East Lincolnshire coast. The wind farm comprises 90 turbines, and is located approx. 50km off the landfall location at Anderby Creek. Once finished, it will generate 857MW, which is enough to power over 800,000 UK homes.
