My name is James and I am 23 years old. Before starting my apprenticeship with Murphy Electrical Services (MES), I worked in various sectors across Murphy. I worked on lots of different roles like civils, operating a variety of different machinery.

I chose to do an apprenticeship with Murphy Electrical Services (MES) as it was something, I have always had an interest in since school. I thought it would be a good way to learn new skills and better myself by gaining a valuable trade.

I have particularly enjoyed the variation across all the projects as MES work across all the different sectors which means there is a great variety of work and it’s not the same tasks day-after-day.

My biggest achievement to date has been helping the on-site electricians on Whiteball Rail Tunnel and LOCROS. I found this really interesting as it had a lot of complex works that needed a lot of coordination to achieve.

I chose to do my apprenticeship at MES as I was working for Murphy already and felt part of a family company. I wanted to remain in the organisation and maintain friendships and connections over the years.

Once I complete my apprenticeship I plan to continue working for MES and go on to achieve an Approved Electrician Status and hopefully continue to climb the ladder!
