Since the 1950s, Murphy have been maintaining and improving the UK’s highways and cityscapes, assisting with numerous high profile infrastructure projects.
Murphy Urban Infrastructure brings together key Murphy services such as utilities, ground engineering, plant, and highways and streetworks. Through our ‘One Murphy’ value, these in-house teams work together to deliver single infrastructure solutions that are on time and within budget.
The scope of work covered by Urban Infrastructure has included jobs such as hard landscaping, utilities and drainage upgrades, the construction of new roads, the installation of street furniture and other public realm work. We also have a proven track record delivering challenging basement formation projects, involving piling, bulk excavation, earthworks and more.
Another area of expertise for Murphy Urban Infrastructure is complex demolition projects and the rejuvenation of brownfield sites. Our demolition and site clearance team aim to synergise demolition with regeneration works, particularly with our re-use of materials. Such sustainable construction methods also allow our clients to receive the best-value solution.
For many years, we have been the contractor of choice due to our expertise in hard landscaping, street infrastructure and security, particularly in central London. We can work with multiple stakeholders on the feasibility of construction, to make sure projects are delivered on time and on budget.
It is our self-delivery capabilities and focus on in-house specialisms that sets us apart from other providers in the industry.
We can minimise contractor interfaces on projects by taking care of all traditional civil aspects for a new development or project. We add significant value by delivering front end enabling works, particularly around traditional risk areas such as utility connections and service diversions, calling on specialist Murphy teams for support.
We also provide advisory services, assisting clients with their projects every step of the way. It is this hands-on approach that distinguishes Murphy Urban Infrastructure.
Murphy Urban Infrastructure has led many notable projects. We recently completed an £8 million project for Lendlease as part of the £2 billion regeneration of the Elephant and Castle area in London, undertaking public realm works and hard landscaping. Work on this project focused heavily on the external environment, creating communal open spaces, playgrounds, courtyards and a new high street.
We were appointed by Lendlease following the completion of high-profile public realm schemes in London’s West End including St. James’s Market, Oxford Circus, Piccadilly Circus and Whitehall.
Murphy Urban Infrastructure have also recently completed a large external works project for Crossrail and Laing O’Rourke, which involved the enhancement of Tottenham Court Road station and the improvement of various adjacent streets in Soho. This extremely densely populated area presented a number of logistical challenges and, due to the strength of our delivery, Murphy has also been awarded other Crossrail projects.
