Major electrical upgrades to the existing HV network

From April 2026, Murphy will be undertaking a 3.7km (7.4km dual circuit) major electrical upgrade of the existing 11kv HV network between West Byfleet Primary substation and Sheerwater.

Programme of Works:

Start: 25 April 2026 – September 2026

Duration: approximately 20 weeks

To ensure the safety of our employees, all road users and members of the public, we will be deploying a mixture of traffic management during these works, including but not limited to:

  • 2 x way signals
  • Multi way signals
  • Road closures / lane closures
  • Temporary pedestrian crossings

The works will be completed in phases, commencing from 25 April 2026 near Paragon Roundabout / Chertsey Rd, before heading along Martyrs Lane, Woodham Avenue, Sheerwater Rd and Woodlands Avenue, with completion expected in Autumn 2026.

Emergency vehicle access, refuse collections and property access will be maintained at all times.

Working hours:

Monday to Friday: 8am – 6pm

Saturday: 8am – 5pm

Sunday: 8am – 5pm

To minimise disruption caused by the works, we will be utilising 2 x civils teams to maximise productivity and shorten our site duration. A local contractor is being utilised to provide and recycle all aggregates required for the works to drive efficiency further, while minimising the environmental impact.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused during these essential works to upgrade the local infrastructure. If you have any queries or concerns, you can contact our project manager directly using the details below to discuss them.

Leaving a Positive Legacy in the Local Community:

As part of one of our key Murphy values, we always hope to leave a positive legacy on the local communities we work in. We would be delighted to organise a “Giving Back Day”, whether that be in a local school, improving gardens for children, planting trees or preparing food for local food banks. Our community insight tools provide data which can enable us to:

  • Create detailed community profiles
  • Identify areas with acute needs
  • Prioritise community investment

In keeping with the above, we would welcome any suggestions for opportunities to collaborate with local community programmes or charitable organisations while we are working in the local area. Please feel free to send any suggestions to our project manager Richard Walsh using the contact details above..
