The Woodford 50 / 16 Mains Rehabilitation project is a key initiative within Thames Water’s AMP7 Mains Rehabilitation commitments.

Project design works began in August 2022, with our work on site beginning in January 2023 with the Woodford 50 District Meter Area (DMA) located in Newham. Since then the project has made impressive progress, with the installation of all mains (21.3km) and customer service pipes (20.2km) now complete. We are currently in the final phases of commissioning and preparing for handover.

In June 2023, we also commenced construction work on the Woodford 16 DMA, situated in the bustling Walthamstow retail area. This phase has presented more complex stakeholder interactions but is on track to reach construction completion by October 2027. So far, we have successfully installed and commissioned 46% of the 11km of water mains and 7.3km of service pipes.

Our project team has established strong relationships with the local Highway Authority, leading to the rehabilitation of additional mains in the area ahead of upcoming cycle schemes, as well as collaborative efforts on a flood elevation scheme adjacent to our current works.

Commissioning and handover to our customer on Woodford 50 was achieved on 26 June 2025.
