Murphy was proud to attend the official opening of the Saunders Pedestrian and Cycle Bridge in Mullingar, Co. Westmeath, where Minister for Transport Darragh O’Brien TD joined representatives from Westmeath County Council to mark the completion of this important active travel infrastructure project. The project represents a significant milestone for the region, improving connectivity and providing a safe and accessible route for pedestrians and cyclists. Murphy delivered both the bridge structure and associated civil engineering works, including the construction of the bridge abutments. While works progressed on site in Mullingar, our in-house Steel Fabrication team in Newbridge simultaneously fabricated the complex 40-metre curved bridge structure, which weighs in excess of 40 tonnes. The bridge was transported to site in two sections and successfully installed during a single-night operation using a 700-tonne crane. This project highlights the strength of collaboration across Murphy’s Transport & Infrastructure and Steel Fabrication teams, combining specialist engineering expertise and coordinated project delivery to achieve a successful outcome for the local community.
