Tony Sandom is an Articulated HGV Driver, who will mark 20 years working with Murphy next month. 

What do you do at Murphy?

Lorry driver, HIAB Operator, Low Loader Driver. 

What does your role involve?

Moving heavy machinery from our base in Newbridge, Co. Kildare to different sites throughout the country.

What do you like most about your role? 

Every day is a different day, a different challenge, no two jobs are the same.

What do you find most interesting about your role?

Rising to the challenge of moving all types of various plant daily into all manner of different sized sites, some which are very tight to navigate.

What has been your biggest challenge at Murphy?

I would think dealing with the Covid pandemic on a day-to-day basis has been my biggest challenge – being a lorry driver visiting different sites and places everyday while still staying safe.

What attracted you to the construction industry?

It’s an industry I’ve always been interested in since I was very young, so when I got the opportunity to drive for a company like Murphy I jumped at the chance.

What is the most rewarding part of your job?

Moving all types of heavy construction machinery on a day-to-day basis and ensuring that the plant gets to its destination safely and on time is very rewarding.

What is your proudest achievement?

Raising two wonderful children with my fantastic wife and owning our own house. Also driving for 20 years without any accidents would be a proud achievement and having the honour of getting to drive Murphy’s state of the art new Scania 580S on a daily basis.

What are your career aspirations? 

To carry on as I am, going home safely at the end of every day and working with the best in the business.

On a typical weekend, what can we expect you to be doing?

Spending time with my family whether it is out walking, swimming or just going to the park.
