Anthony O’Shea is a Metal Fabricator based in Murphy Ireland’s Fabrication Workshop in Newbridge Co. Kildare. Anthony has been with Murphy for the last 7 years and is also one of our resident beekeepers.

What does your role involve?

The fabrication of steel from blueprints, we manufacture everything from structural steel to bridges.

What do you find most interesting about your role?

It’s a challenging job and no two jobs are the same. It keeps you on your toes. Seeing the finished job up and running is a good feeling, we have a good crew of lads working together and knowing a job is done well is something we all are proud of.

What has been your biggest challenge at Murphy?

Bootle bridge was a big one, a lot of planning went into its manufacturing. It was quite interesting.

What attracted you to the construction industry?

It started with my father in the workshop at about the age of ten, so it was really the only route I was going to take. I branched off for a number of years working as a draughtsman, but always kept my hands on the tools.

What is the most rewarding part of your job?

That sense of achievement from getting jobs done well and out on time.

What is your proudest achievement?

I am National Champion at target shooting.

What are your career aspirations?

You never know what’s around the corner. I always keep my options open, Murphy’s have so much to offer their workers.

On a typical weekend, what can we expect you to be doing?

I am kept busy with two springer spaniels, the shooting range and of course herself…not necessarily in that order!
