What do you do at Murphy?

My name is Ben McCluskey, I am Head of Central Procurement and responsible for the central procurement team, procurement strategy, supplier relationship management, systems, category management, revolutionary transformation programme and specialist business units’ operational procurement. I manage a team of 17 as well as responsibility for recruitment, mentoring and development of all emerging talent.

What is the biggest reward of your job?

I really enjoy working with our supply chain and looking for ways to create mutual benefit through collaboration and knowledge sharing. Robust and broad stakeholder engagement is key to this on both sides. I also get to work with some keen, intelligent and bright talent which will be the future of the function.

Why do you like working at Murphy’s and how long have you been here?

I started with Murphy in January 2017 so I am now entering my 4th year. I really enjoy working at Murphy due to the One Murphy family culture. Everyone who works here is really engaged and close giving it a fantastic family feel. Yet at the same time we are a massive player in the market so have plenty of involvement in many exciting opportunities.

What is your proudest achievement?

On a work level it is probably our CIPS Excellence award as a function. This was an extremely testing and difficult standard to achieve and highly unusual for our sector.

On a typical weekend, what can we expect you to be doing?

I have a wife and two young children Rory (6) and Shay (3) so I have my hands full chasing round after them. However, when I do get some free time I like to run and watch sport with my favourite teams being Everton and Wigan Warriors.
