Murphy has been awarded the contract by Gas Networks Ireland to deliver critical infrastructure works as part of the Southern Area Network Upgrade project, supporting the continued enhancement of Ireland’s national gas transmission network. The project represents a significant investment in Ireland’s energy infrastructure and will strengthen the resilience, capacity and security of the gas network. Once completed, the upgrade will increase capacity on a key high-pressure transmission pipeline by approximately 20%, ensuring the network can meet demand on a 1-in-50-year winter peak day. As part of the works, Murphy will deliver: Separation of the Dublin-Galway-Limerick and Dublin-Cork transmission pipelines Upgrading the Pipeline to the West to operate at its full design pressure of 85 bar Modifications within existing Above Ground Installations at Baldrumman, Co. Dublin, and Goatlisland, Co. Limerick Mobilisation is already underway, with approximately 100 Murphy colleagues expected to work across the two sites over the duration of the project. The Southern Area Network Upgrade will play a vital role in maintaining Ireland’s energy security and network resilience, enabling Gas Networks Ireland to continue supplying more than 30% of the country’s total energy demand and almost 50% of electricity generation capacity. The project will also support future economic growth and connections across the network.
