Field and Sand Projects Surerus Murphy constructed two pipeline projects for TC Energy as part of the Leming Lake Sales Lateral Loop Program in Northern Alberta. These pipelines – called the Field and Sand sections – were completed Q1, 2026 and were built to enhance TC Energy’s natural gas transportation system that services the growing demand from Alberta’s oil sands projects. Work for the Leming Lake projects began in Spruce Grove, Alberta with approximately 25-35 personnel providing fabrication, coating and testing at Murphy’s fabrication yard. Self-performing fabrication provided greater schedule control and measurable efficiencies, including a welding repair rate of just 1.2 percent and zero safety incidents. In Q4, 2025, pipeline crews mobilized to site to progress pre planned outage works on Field Lake and tree clearing works on Sand. Between winter 2025 and early 2026, crews at the Field site location installed 17 km of 20-inch pipeline and then moved to the Sand site location to install 18 km of 20-inch pipeline to be constructed. The Sand section crossed the Sand River and required strict environmental controls. Standard mitigation measures, including dewatering pens, silt fencing, and erosion control mats, protected the surrounding environment during the execution of a 75m Guided Hammer Bore beneath the Sand River. Crews established equipment access across the Sand River using a uniquely designed 180-foot single-span bridge, allowing crews to complete clearing in late January. Both projects are located adjacent to existing right-of-way, which enabled the teams to minimize land and environmental disturbance during construction. A key highlight of the project was the team’s community engagement initiatives. Surerus Murphy’s Indigenous and Local Engagement teams communicated employment opportunities early to Bonnyville, Lac La Biche, Indigenous and local communities by participating in hiring and career fairs in Whitefish First Nation, Beaver Lake Cree Nation, Lac La Biche, and Bonnyville. Surerus Murphy has hired 15 members from Indigenous and local communities for the project.
