Reacting fast to support our client and community

In the first week of 2026, Murphy started on-site at the Staveley project under United Utilities’ Detailed Design & Build framework for AMP8. This vital scheme will help reduce storm overflow spills and play an important role in improving water quality in the River Kent.

Responding to a fast-moving request from our customer, United Utilities, Murphy demonstrated speed and agility in mobilisation – acting immediately under an Advanced Implementation Order and starting work on the first day back after the New Year.

Working closely with design partner Jacobs, the project involves upsizing 1.1 km of sewer across farmland, including a river crossing, and upgrading the Wastewater Treatment Works. Key improvements include adding 450m³ of storm storage via two above-ground tanks and boosting treatment capacity from 13 to 46 litres per second with a new Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor (MBBR) side stream.
