Project Outline Cambridge South station entered into service on Sunday 28 June 2026. The new station will provide transport options and connectivity for 1.8 million passengers, patients, visitors and employees when travelling to and from the Cambridge Biomedical Campus (CBC) every year. The station will link the CBC to key places with direct train services including London, Birmingham, Stansted Airport, Gatwick Airport and London St Pancras International. The contract to deliver Cambridge South station for Network Rail included delivery of a two-storey, four platform station on the West Anglia Main line. The new station comes equipped with ticket vending machines, six lifts providing step free access to all platforms, accessible toilets, baby change facilities, A Changing Place facility (hospital side), waiting areas and space for retail/catering, entrances for pedestrians and cyclists from both Hobsons Park and the CBC, and capacity for 1000 cycle parking spaces. Alongside this, Murphy oversaw the modification of local roads and crossings to facilitate access to the station from pedestrians and cyclists, creating ideal pathways of travel and better service for the residents of Cambridge South. The video below also shows the unique design of the new station, using a green roof, with solar panels to compliment the nature reserve, make the station sustainable and help achieve the biodiversity targets, to offset the footprint of the station.
