A leading supplier in plant, transport and equipment

Murphy Plant is one of the largest providers of plant, transport and equipment in the UK.

We have a broad range of equipment including specialist assets for ground engineering, pipeline testing, tunnelling, rail and more. We adopt a ‘One Murphy’ approach in supporting Murphy projects with our vehicle fleets. Murphy Plant delivers a plant hire service that is simple, safe, efficient and reliable.

What we do

We manage and maintain more than £100 million worth of plant, transport and specialist equipment and our work spans multiple industries. Our inventory includes over 15,000 assets, ranging from small tools to piling rigs, including one of the UK’s most comprehensive crawler crane fleets.

Murphy Plant has a vision of providing innovative, best in-class equipment, which encompasses the company’s Never Harm value. We are committed to protecting our people, the environment and communities in which we operate – no matter where or what we are doing.

What makes us different

Early engagement - We ensure clients are satisfied through our transparent service dashboards and early client engagement. We aim to be involved from the very beginning of a project, guaranteeing we have a comprehensive understanding of what is required.

Never Harm - We prioritise the safety of our employees, our clients and their customers by offering equipment aligned with the latest safety developments and initiatives. As an example, we have recently mandated the use of Xwatch Safety Solutions XW5 on our new excavators.

Digitalisation – We have a digital roadmap in place, to utilise the Internet of Things (IoT) to help analyse data provided by our plant and vehicles, as well as third parties, to ensure that wastage is reduced, health and safety are optimised, and our plant is used in the most efficient way. Plant tracking allows us to monitor usage and advise on the most efficient operation of our products.

Green Plant - We seek to supply solutions with low energy consumption and limited CO2 emissions, reflected in our growing range of environmentally friendly assets that use lower carbon technology. These include Stage V generators, hybrid excavators, battery power packs, electric plant and vans and the latest in battery powered tools.

Accreditations - We have a gold accreditation with the Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme (FORS) for the tenth consecutive year. FORS is a national accreditation scheme for commercial vehicle operators. It aims to improve operating standards and demonstrate exemplary levels of best practice across areas such as safety, efficiency, and environmental protection. The Gold standard is awarded to exceptional operators who have met exacting targets and actively promote these standards to their supply chain.

Awards - Murphy Plant won the coveted National 2020 Green Apple Award for Environmental Practices. The award recognises our Solar Smart Site on the LME Welsh Road project which was completed in conjunction with AJC EasyCabin. The Solar Smart Site is a solar/battery hybrid solution that can be deployed in a range of scenarios including large static sites and remote off the National Grid sites.

In 2021 the team won a number of fleet awards including the Van Safety and Compliance Award and the Diversity and Inclusion Award.

In 2022 the team also won a number of fleet awards including the ‘Van Business of the Year!’ at the Logistics UK awards.
