{"id":1323,"date":"2024-09-09T10:25:23","date_gmt":"2024-09-09T09:25:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.murphygroup.com\/?post_type=project&#038;p=1323"},"modified":"2026-04-15T16:51:47","modified_gmt":"2026-04-15T15:51:47","slug":"portloman-water-treatment-works","status":"publish","type":"project","link":"https:\/\/www.murphygroup.com\/staging\/project\/portloman-water-treatment-works\/","title":{"rendered":"Portloman Water Treatment Plant Upgrade"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Project Outline<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Portloman Water treatment plant is one of the top 25 strategic water treatment infrastructure assets for Uisce Eireann throughout Ireland. The plant serves approximately 60,000 people in Ireland&#8217;s midlands region, producing on average 22 million litres of water per day. This treatment facility will become an integral part of the wider development plan for water infrastructure in the Republic of Ireland over the coming years. The plant was originally constructed in 2002 by Murphy and we have operated the plant for Uisce Eireann since it was commissioned in 2003.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2022, Murphy undertook a significant upgrade of the facility, which included:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Replacement of existing chemical dosing systems, storage tanks and monitoring systems.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Provision of a new Orthophosphoric acid dosing facility for mitigation against lead dissolution in the distribution network.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Optimisation of coagulation process and providing pH control for the sulphuric acid dosing facilities.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Installation of 6 new high lift pumps to feed the surrounding reservoirs.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Upgrade to the ultrafiltration membrane system to improved process performance.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Upgrade of the existing electrical system and improvements for energy efficiencies.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Upgrade of existing operational equipment to improve operation resilience and energy efficiency.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Provision of a complete PLC (programable logic controller) system, control and automation replacement and the provision of 24-hour real-time information.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Replacement and upgrade of the existing Sodium Hypochlorite disinfection facility.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Civil infrastructure improvement and high pressure pipework connections.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Provision of a state-of-the-art PV generation system and e car charging point.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Complete a biodiversity study and construct a wildflower meadow.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Removal of equipment not in use for circular economy reuse on similar Uisce Eireann plants.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"https:\/\/www.murphygroup.com\/staging\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/DJI_0191-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"An aerial view of a water treatment plant in the countryside.\" class=\"wp-image-2285\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.murphygroup.com\/staging\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/DJI_0191-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.murphygroup.com\/staging\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/DJI_0191-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.murphygroup.com\/staging\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/DJI_0191-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.murphygroup.com\/staging\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/DJI_0191-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/www.murphygroup.com\/staging\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/DJI_0191-2048x1536.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Upgrading water treatment plant serving 60,000 people<\/p>\n","protected":false},"featured_media":2228,"template":"","meta":{"_acf_changed":true},"project-customer":[],"class_list":["post-1323","project","type-project","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.5 -
