{"id":1320,"date":"2024-09-09T10:23:41","date_gmt":"2024-09-09T09:23:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.murphygroup.com\/?post_type=project&#038;p=1320"},"modified":"2026-04-20T11:13:48","modified_gmt":"2026-04-20T10:13:48","slug":"isle-of-grain-lng","status":"publish","type":"project","link":"https:\/\/www.murphygroup.com\/staging\/project\/isle-of-grain-lng\/","title":{"rendered":"Isle of Grain LNG"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Project Outline<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Murphy was selected as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalgrid.com\/national-grid-ventures\">National Grid Ventures<\/a>\u2019 delivery partner to design and build the \u2018Main Site Works\u2019 workstream of \u2018Capacity 25\u2019 &#8211; Grain LNG\u2019s capital expansion and enhancement project. Prior to the expansion, Grain LNG delivered circa 25% of the UK\u2019s gas demand. The goal of the expansion was to raise this to one third.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As part of creating additional capacity requirements for National Grid\u2019s LNG terminal, our role comprises:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>engineering, procurement and construction of two additional submerged combustion vaporisers and associated equipment (rated capacity 173 tonnes\/hour);<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>two additional ex-tank pumps (rated capacity 440m3\/hour);<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>a new Boil Off Gas (BOG) compression building, housing three reciprocating compressors; and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>a new local equipment room adjacent to the new BOG building for electrical supplies, instrumentation and control signals to the new BOG compression facilities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Project Delivery<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>With our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.murphygroup.com\/staging\/our-values-culture\/\">One Murphy<\/a> approach, our specialist internal capability teams successfully completed the piling within the live site and the welding fabrications on site. Murphy is also delivering the Electrical, Control and Instrumentation (EC&amp;I) packages as well as installing structural steelwork. In the course of the project, Murphy has:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>reduced our carbon emissions by over 90% by using Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) to fuel our plant and equipment;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>safely worked over 325,000 hours in 2023; and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>completed the installation of over 600 piles within the live Control of Major Accident Hazards (COMAH)
