The North Bristol Relief Sewer scheme involved the construction of a 6.5km pipeline sewer to accommodate urban development in the region. An essential asset for the sewerage strategy for the next 100 years, this project was a \u00a355m investment into the community. It provides 38,000 metres cubed of additional sewer storage capacity for the area, and directs waste more efficiently around North Bristol to the Wessex Water<\/a> Recycling Centre in Avonmouth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The majority of the sewer was constructed by tunnelling underground using a tunnel boring machine (TBM), reducing the need to dig trenches. Tunnelling took place underneath key landmarks, including the M5 motorway and Network Rail\u2019s Henbury Loop freight railway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
