Murphy welcomed Andy Burnham, Mayor of Greater Manchester<\/a>, and David Molyneux, Leader of Wigan Metropolitan Borough Council<\/a>, to the topping out ceremony of its new office and plant depot on Wigan Road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event celebrated the halfway point of the build, which is due to be open by this time next year and will provide a purpose-built modern hub suitable for Murphy\u2019s continued business growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a direct-delivery organisation, Murphy is completing much of the work itself, with its in-house teams of Transportation, Plant, Ground Engineering, Utility Connections, Applied Engineering, Steel Fabrication and Technical Services all working together to realise the ambitious scheme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When complete, the facilities will include a 186,000 sq ft plant yard, a 23,500 sq ft workshop, a three-storey office for 400 people, 100m of rail testing track, and a national rail training centre alongside external gardens and car parking. In addition, there will be 12.6 acres of surrounding parkland which will be open for the local community to use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham, said: \u201cProjects like this show the best of Greater Manchester. By creating skilled jobs, these long-term investments create real opportunities for local people and strengthen the foundations of our community. It\u2019s great to see Murphy backing Wigan and helping to build the infrastructure that will drive our region forward for years to come.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Councillor David Molyneux, Leader of Wigan Council, said: \u201cIt was a pleasure to be invited to this topping out ceremony and celebrate the progress on site so far. This Hub is set to be is a real boost for the local community, investing in our borough, creating jobs, workspace, and greenspace for local people to enjoy.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
