Project outline During a six day blockade in early January the mid two spans of the Nazeing New Road Overbridge were demolished and replaced with a precast concrete and filler beam deck. Prior to the removal of the existing bridge, utilities were diverted into a temporary service bridge and highways improvements were made to alleviate disruption on the near 17 mile diversion route. Following the disruptive possession works continue under a road closure to replace utilities, reinstate the highway and carry out strengthening to the remaining spans.
Project outline Our work at Bishopsgate Tunnel involved strengthening works to the existing steelwork structure housed within an active rail line beneath a busy street of homes and businesses. The complexity and scope of the task required the installation of heavy steel components, lifted and precisely positioned using specialised RRVs (road rail vehicles) equipped with manipulator attachments, the assembly of preassembled needle and spreader beam units, the coring of large 300mm diameter cores, penetrating 1.3 meters into the brick substrate, as well as the installation and grouting of top needles all within a confined environment. The strengthening works is part of a wider £800m scheme to develop the land above the tunnel in Shoreditch with works only able to proceed once the strengthening works is complete.
