Ground Engineering (Piling)

Experienced team delivering excellence in demanding conditions

Murphy Ground Engineering provides piling and geotechnical services throughout the UK and Ireland. We are experienced in the varied geological settings this presents from soft organic and alluvial material to high strength rock. We have a long track record of successfully delivering both minor and major works across a range of industry sectors, with our piling project values ranging from £50,000 to over £3 million.

We offer in-house pile design, value engineering and bespoke solutions for each of our projects – these are directly-delivered by our team of specialists. By engaging with our clients during the earliest stages of each project, we build close working relationships in order to develop efficient and effective pile services. For complex geotechnical analysis, we work with design consultants including industry renowned geotechnical experts, and are supported by the varied functions across the Murphy Group. We also offer leading Building Information Modeling (BIM) capabilities and are developing throughout the sectors in which we operate. These include residential, commercial and infrastructure projects along with our core Power, Rail, Water and Natural Resource sectors.

Our team strives to ensure our clients receive a reliable and adaptable service that meets the changing needs of their schemes, without interrupting other stages of project roll-out. Our work is completed safely, on time and within budget in a sustainable manner. The quality management practices we adopt during our projects are second to none.

Our directly-delivered capabilities include:

  • CFA piling from 300mm to 1050mm diameter
  • Rotary bored piling from 300mm to 2500mm diameter
  • Segmental casing and fluid support systems
  • Secant, contiguous and king post pile walls
  • Sheet pile walls (on a small scale)
  • Driven piles – precast concrete and steel section

Latest plant, transport and equipment

We also own and maintain a substantial holding of the latest plant, transport and equipment, which is managed by our specialist Murphy Plant department, and meets the highest safety and environmental standards. This includes meeting the latest CO2 emission requirements, as well our rigs featuring rear-view cameras, handrails, double-bagged hoses, flashing beacons and motion alarms. Our fleet of 18 rigs are directly owned and deployed and are from leading piling plant manufacturers including Soilmec, Casagrande, Llamada, Junttan and Bauer. We also have access to auxiliary plant and equipment for all project requirements such as crawler cranes, concrete agitators and pumps, and specialised drilling tools.

Accreditation and membership

Our rigs are operated by experienced Construction Plant Competence Scheme (CPCS) qualified piling teams and all our site supervisors are qualified to Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) or Site Supervisors Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS) level.
