Murphy looks to grow with graduates

Employees from J Murphy & Sons (Murphy) will be on the look-out for candidates to join the global engineering and construction company as they visit graduate fairs up and down the country this week.

Members from the HR team and graduates who recently joined the Murphy family will be meeting students in Glasgow, Liverpool and Derby and telling students more about the roles on offer across the UK and Ireland.

Murphy will be at:

• The Scottish Graduate Fair – University of Strathclyde – October 7, 2-7pm and October 8, 11-4pm. www.strath.ac.uk/careers/sgf

Our graduate programme is designed to provide a structured path for tomorrow’s leaders and. This year we took on 41 graduates and we’re looking for another 40 enthusiastic graduates and undergraduates to join our growing family and work on some of infrastructure’s most exciting projects, across a range of disciplines.”

Zahrah Hussain, 23, is a graduate quality advisor. She joined Murphy from UCL this summer with a chemical engineering degree. She said: “I have a portfolio and set tasks to complete, and we have different placements around the company. I went out on site in my first week and I loved it – in fact, I’m having a blast!”

The Murphy Graduate Programme is a structured opportunity for graduates (a two-year programme that can be completed sooner on some occasions) and non-graduates (four to five year programme) to gain relevant site or office experience with the support of a mentor.

Vacancies will be advertised from December 2015 until April 2016 with roles in areas such as civil, mechanical and electrical engineering, building surveying, health and safety, and support services such as IT, business development and procurement.
