Meet Eve Chin - an insight into her role as graduate quantity surveyor

At Murphy, we believe our people are our greatest asset, which is why they are at the heart of our company and everything we do. This week we caught up with graduate quantity surveyor, Eve Chin, to talk about her time at Murphy so far.

What is your name and job title?

Eve chin, graduate quantity surveyor.

Where are you normally based?

Langley, Slough.

In a nutshell, what do you do at Murphy?

As part of my two year graduate programme at Murphy, my current rotations are in ‘Infrastructure, South’. I am working on the LOCROS project (Crossrail scheme) to provide step-free access at Hanwell, Langley, Iver and Taplow station.

I provide commercial support to my team, which includes subcontract application assessments, project cost control, payment support, measurement of quantities and such. The project team at LOCROS is certainly an interesting bunch!

What do you find most interesting about your role?

I previously worked as summer placement quantity surveyor in Malaysia and for the Murphy Construction and Property team. Each experience at Murphy has been fundamentally different, as each project is unique and the people involved are also different. I am constantly learning new things every day. I am curious and absolutely looking forward to how much I can grow by the end of my graduate programme.

What are your career aspirations?

I am working towards RICS to become a chartered quantity surveyor. Apart from the support we have from Murphy, few of us graduates meet up once every two weeks to catch up with our progress. These sessions are a good way for me to keep on track with my goal and become chartered in three to five years’ time.
